Juliet's tomb

Located inside the former convent of San Francesco al Corso, Juliet's tomb is a few minutes walk from Piazza Bra. Through a stone staircase leads to the crypt containing the sarcophagus of red marble that contained the remains of the young Juliet Capuleti.

In the fifteenth century, when the fame of Romeo and Juliet was growing up, the church authorities decided to desecrate the Juliet's tomb transforming the sarcophagus in a container for the water from the well, so they could get rid of every shadow of the scandal.

It was only a few years ago that the tomb was re-evaluated and was placed in the current place of worship in which millions of visitors come to give tribute to Juliet.
